Several area restaurants — Aqua Restaurant in Duck, Kelly’s Restaurant & Tavern in Nags Head and Rooster’s Southern Kitchen in Kill Devil Hills — are doing what they can to help Outer Banks residents in need through special events this winter.
From Oct. 23 through March 2018, Aqua restaurant, 1174 Duck Road, will offer an 8-ounce flat iron steak special with garlic roasted mashed potatoes — including a choice of coffee, tea or soft drink — for $12. For each steak special, Aqua will donate $1 to Outer Banks Relief Foundation.
Reservations are requested, but walk-ins are welcome. Call (252) 261-9700 or visit aquaobx.com.
Kelly’s, 2316 S. Croatan Hwy., will host an event from at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, to raise funds for seven local nonprofits. The Womanless Beauty Pageant — sponsored by Brindley Beach Vacation & Sales since 2010 — pits seven men in drag against each other in an all-in-good-fun rivalry for the coveted crown and sash.
The contestants are:
- Dr. Jay Taylor (Outer Banks Center for Dolphin Research)
- Dr. Gunther Heyder (ARTS Dental Outreach: A Reason to Smile)
- Tim Cafferty (Dare Education Foundation)
- Ben Reilly (Community Care Clinic of Dare)
- Steven Gills (Dare County Toys 4 Tots)
- Lou Williams (Interfaith Community Outreach)
- Mike Rowe (Outer Banks Relief Foundation)
Tickets are $50 per person, general admission; $75 per person for the mosh pit; and $100 per person for the balcony. Ticket prices include food and an open bar. Call (252) 453-3000.
On Nov. 17, Rooster’s Southern Kitchen, 804 S. Croatan Hwy., will host Spirits of Giving Bourbon Tasting.
Tickets are $25 per person and include six bourbon tastings and a selection of appetizers.
All proceeds from ticket sales and 10 percent of lunch and dinner sales that day benefit Interfaith Community Outreach in Kill Devil Hills.
The nonprofit provides assistance to residents facing a temporary emergency crisis.
