The first question to ask about the group: Are these The Wailers who backed up the legendary Bob Marley?

Well, jah and no mon.

The group performing at Outer Banks Brewing Station in Kill Devil Hills includes several musicians who played with the master, most notably bassist-vocalist Ashton “Family Man” Barrett and guitarist Julian “Junior” Marvin.

But the newer members of the band certainly feel the quiet fire of the roots-reggae giant who died in 1981.

On stage, The Wailors stay rock-steady with worthy renditions of many of the tunes associated with Marley, as well as some spirited originals.

On the play list are such chestnuts as “One Love,” “Is This Love” and “No Woman, No Cry.”
