Each summer, hundreds of thousands of people pass through Currituck County on their way to and from the Outer Banks.

Some lament the end of their vacation, some are excited about what awaits them on the other side of the Wright Memorial Bridge ahead.

But whether it’s the start of the vacation or the end, those who fail to stop at The Cotton Gin in Jarvisburg are really missing out.

The property has of an expansive store bursting with unique gifts, bath and body items, apparel, home furnishings, artwork, and more.

But it also boasts on-site vineyards and garden that inspire fresh cuisine — and an excellent on-site dining experience in its Thyme & Tide Cafe.

The cafe’s menu features fresh-from-the-garden salads (some topped with shrimp) and made-to-order sandwiches on homemade bread.

There also are sides, including potato salad, and wine by the glass or bottle — Sanctuary Vineyards is, after all, located on the property.

There’s also expressed coffee to get you perky for that long drive home, or to pep you up for the adventure that awaits across the bridge.
