Dare County Arts Council and the Town of Nags Head will host the 29th Annual Artrageous Kids Art Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Dowdy Park, 3005 S. Croatan Hwy., Nags Head.
Artrageous is a free, family-friendly event featuring more than 20 high quality kids art activities from painting to blacksmithing, live music, dance performances, and more fun entertainment.
“We’re pleased that the Dare County Arts Council, for the second year in a row, has chosen to hold Artrageous at Dowdy Park,” Nags Head Mayor Ben Cahoon says. “This event epitomizes the goals we had in mind when we built the park: free, family-friendly fun for all ages and abilities, with elements that evoke our community’s art history.”
The event’s 2018 theme, Find Your Gift, is centered around local nonprofit organizations and businesses that donate their time to teach children about giving back to the community through art and creating handmade gifts for loved ones.
“Last year I so enjoyed helping the kids make stained glass sun catchers with Jack and Marcia Horst,” says Dare County Arts Council President Ginny Flowers. “Watching kids tap into their creative spirit is really special. This year’s Artrageous will have so many unique craft booths, plus a cool gift-wrapping station. I can’t think of a better place for children to make gifts for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Teacher’s Appreciation Month than Artrageous. We all know that handmade gifts are the best.”
Artrageous will also feature local artisans selling their creative goods and a variety of local restaurants selling the perfect lunch items and delicious sweet treats.
Organizations and businesses interested in hosting a kids art activity and artisans interested in selling their works at Artrageous can find the applications online at DareArts DOT org/artrageous and at the DCAC Gallery in Manteo. The application deadline is Friday, April 6.
