Roxanne Valdivieso has long loved breathing new life into discarded items to create things of beauty to give to friends and family and, occasionally, to sell to the public-at-large.
Now she’s turned that part-time passion into a business, Trinkets & Treasure Boxes.
The specialty shop is one of 10 independent vendors located inside Mystic Antiques/Encore Décor in the Central Square Shopping Center in Nags Head. But don’t let the name fool you: All Valdivieso’s original work — and it is all original — are, indeed, treasures, but they’re not all treasure boxes. The artisan also creates unique small furniture and household items.
“I love finding old jewelry boxes to repurpose and add inspirational messages on,” says Valdivieso, who makes everything in the shop. “I also have beach-themed wooden cut-outs and some acrylic canvas paintings. I also make dream catchers.”
Mystic Antiques/ Encore Decor opens its doors the first week of September, and there will be a grand opening and chamber ribbon cutting in early-October, she says.
Valdivieso says Mystic Antiques/Encore Décor plans to offer monthly events throughout the year, and she hopes everyone will stop by to see what she and her fellow artisans have to offer inside. She encourages anyone who creates unique artwork to contact Mystic Antique’s owner Bronwyn Thornton, for consignment opportunities with the completely renovated shop.
“The shop is beautiful. It has been all redone on the inside. I have lots of fun items to decorate and accent your home, especially if you like the coastal/beach feel, and once you are here, you have many other vendors to choose from also,” she said. “There is consignment, new furniture and accessories, antiques and collectibles, fun stuff for the home, and gifts.”
