James Melvin’s Peace Exhibit

The art in this exhibit — oil, acrylic and pastel paintings and colored pencil work — represents the joyful peace, glorious beauty, awesome history and beautiful people of the Outer Banks. Melvin hopes that viewers will be reminded of experiences that have touched their lives in a “magnificent” way.

Salty: A food Art Exhibition

The Art of the Recipe: an invitational art show featuring local artwork inspired by a curated collection of printed local recipes found in the cookbook collection of the Outer Banks History Center.

Who Told You That Story?

A talk by Poet Laureate of North Carolina Jaki Shelton Green covers questions such as: How do you remember the tales about relatives? Where did that vase come from? The answers to such questions suggest the ways communities have survived through the art, music, stories, and crafts produced by its members. Shelton Green also will read selections of her poetry.

The 22nd Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show is set for May 5-31 at Dare County Arts Council, 300 Queen Elizabeth Ave., Manteo. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, noon-4 p.m. Saturday.

The event features nearly 100 art works on display, including paintings, fiber art, photography, and mixed media.

An opening reception, which is from 2 to 4 p.m. May 5, is free and open to the public.
