Fish and Chips Sandwich

Fresh fish of the day golden fried and served with lettuce, tomato and tartar sauce on a toasted roll.

The fish and chips are some of the best I’ve had on the Outer Banks; plate-spanning piece of fish fried to perfection, and the tastiest batter of any of the fish and chips I’ve had since my last trip to New England. — Ryan Hatch

North Carolina Pulled Pork BBQ

Charon Stout BBQ sauce and coleslaw.

This is how North Carolina barbecue is supposed to taste. All that was missing was its natural culinary companion: bluegrass music — something I could have enjoyed, had we opted to dine on a night when a free Pickin’ on the Porch concert was scheduled at nearby Magnolia Pavilion on Budleigh Street.

For the uninitiated, Lost Colony’s charon stout is a dry Irish stout with molasses caramel and toasted malt flavors. For me, this special ingredient made all the difference in the world, and it made for one tasty barbecue sandwich. — Donna Gable Hatch
