Koru Village, which is in the heart of Avon, is the site of one of the most popular restaurants on Hatteras Island: Pangea Tavern.

Owned by Joe Thompson — a 30-plus year Hatteras resident, who is affectionately known to locals as “the Mayor of Koru Village” — wanted to create a resort where visitors (and residents) flock for both the food and the atmosphere.

The menu boasts items with a global flair — such as Wonton Tuna Poke, Tuscan Seafood Pasta, and Thai Coconut Curry — as well as daily specials. The chef uses as many local North Carolina ingredients as possible.

Menu items include fresh local seafood, pasta, New York strip steak, Southern fried chicken, burgers, barbecue, sandwiches, tacos, and more. There’s also a children’s menu.

In addition to daily specials on the menu, there are weekly specials, such as:

Tuesday Brewsday:

  • half-priced beer

Wine Down Wednesday:

  • half-priced bottles of wine

T’kills Thursday:

  • $5 margaritas

Fiesta Friday:

  • Bartender’s choice

Tailgate While You Wait Saturday:

  • 50 cent wings
