We’re set to sail into September with so many special events it’s hard to list them all! For Labor Day weekend Sept. 1-3, check out the exciting finish of the WRV OBX Pro surf contest.

After the competition ends, the gang from Wave Riding Vehicles and Catch Surf put on quite a zany “fun surf” challenge to close out the event.

Last year’s best wave rider won a surfboard!

Next, hundreds of amateur surfers show up for Eastern Surfing Association’s Eastern Championships Sept. 15-22.

From Menehunes to Grand Masters and everyone in between, this contest promises plenty of battles in the surf and great times on the south beach.

Rounding out the month will be our annual Jim Mulford Memorial Red Drum Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 29.

We had a great time last year and the winner was awarded a free annual fishing pass compliments of Barbara Mulford.

Sounds like a lot, right? Well throw in fabulous fall fishing, a dozen wedding receptions and Family Fishing Mondays and Wednesdays, and we’ll be soaring this month.

Teachers at Title 1 schools in North Carolina please don’t forget you can apply for an Aquarium Scholars mini-grant before Sept. 15.

This innovative program provides funding for classes to experience and connect with Jennette’s Pier.
