Kelley Howell takes a break from riding her bike in downtown Norfolk to soak in the sun on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013. Sunday's high temperature of 81 degrees set a record for December at Norfolk International Airport.

Hopefully those shorts and flip flops you put away for the winter are easy to get to.

You're gonna want them Sunday.

The National Weather Service's morning forecast discussion says a warm front pushing through the area today will bring in a good amount of rain overnight, followed by a potentially record high on Sunday.

Forecasters are calling for temperatures to climb into the lower 70s by the first NFL kickoff.

The record high for the day is 71 degrees, recorded in 1998 at Norfolk International Airport.

The warm front has prompted the service to issue gale and small craft warnings along the coast through the weekend.

Up to a half inch of rain could fall later today, with most of the precipitation coming overnight.

More seasonal temperatures return to the region on Tuesday.
