Double take

If you like wading in shallow water most of your day, then you have something in common with the Black-necked Stilt. These birds eat a variety of beetles, flies, mosquitoes, crickets, small fish, snails, and aquatic, snails, amphibians, crustaceans, and invertebrates. A great place to view them is along Highway 12 in front of South Pond, or from the new viewing platform near the South Pond gate/pole shed road (approximately one mile south of Pea Island Refuge Visitor Center).
