A Blacksburg man died Saturday in what appeared to be a rip current off Southern Shores. 


A Blacksburg, Va. man died after he and his wife appeared to be caught in a rip current in Southern Shores Saturday afternoon.

John Albright, 68, was unresponsive after being pulled from the surf located between 1st and 2nd avenues, according to a release from the Southern Shores Police Department. Resuscitation efforts were started by bystanders and continued by rescue personnel.

Eye witnesses said the man and his wife appeared to be caught in a rip current, according to the release. Details about the wife were not immediately available. The couple also owned a home in Southern Shores.
