Mingle with 'royalty' and break bread with nobility on Roanoke Island

Costumed characters greet guests as they enter the Beer Garden at the Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival.

You can mingle with Good Queen Bess, noblemen and other 16th century notables at the upcoming Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival. The annual event, which takes place the last weekend of September on the grounds of the Waterside Theatre on Roanoke Island, is Friday-Saturday, Sept. 27-28. The festival starts with a Vintner’s Dinner on Sept. 27 at downtown Manteo’s historic event center, 108 Budleigh, which boasts antique furniture, vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows and a regal staircase.
