Senior animals are often hard to adopt out, but, in fact, they make wonderful and loyal companions. Most senior dogs have been surrendered to animal shelters because their owners have died or have moved into assisted living.

These two sweet seniors — Dexter, an 8-year-old Shih Tzu-mix, and Duke, a 10-year-old Yorkshire terrier-mix — are ready for adoption at the Outer Banks SPCA.

These little guys are extremely social (and are best friends) and would love to be adopted together, but each one would be happy to see his buddy find a forever home, with or without the other one.

To meet them and the other animals waiting to be adopted — and to find out how you can help support the SPCA in its work — stop by the OBX SPCA at 1031 Driftwood Drive, Manteo.
