An armed man was shot and killed by a Hertford County deputy Sunday

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C.

Police discovered a 16-year-old student had a loaded gun in his coat following a fight last week at a Pasquotank County school.

The student was charged Wednesday with charges related to assault, resisting arrest, possession of a stolen firearm at school and possession of marijuana, according to a release from Pasquotank County Sheriff Tommy Wooten. The gun’s serial number had been removed.

The arrest was made public in a release Tuesday. The student's name was not released.

The fight happened at H.L. Trigg Community School in Pasquotank County. The school resource officer found the gun with a loaded magazine, marijuana and digital scales in the student’s coat. Another student was charged with assault at the school in December.
