An 82-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed early Monday on U.S. 158.
A 90-year-old Point Harbor man turned north onto U.S. 158 about 9 a.m. Monday from Landing Drive when he struck the 82-year-old man crossing the highway, according to a news release from the Kill Devil Hills Police Department.
The pedestrian had the right of way, the release said. The investigation continues.
A friend walking with the man unsuccessfully attempted to pull him from the path of the Chevrolet Silverado. The names are being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. The victim was from Weirton, W.Va.
Traffic on U.S. 158 was shut down for an hour, the release said.
