FRISCO, N.C.

A shrimp boat with three crew members aboard was found broken apart on the Frisco beach early Monday.

The Big John, a trawler out of Wanchese, lay overturned in the surf about 5:30 a.m. with debris from the wreck scattered over the beach including chunks of wood and nails, according to a release from the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The beach access ramps 48 and 49 will be closed until the debris is cleared, the release said.

The crew members were transported to a hospital for evaluation. The cause of the wreck was not immediately known.
