A three story home burned to the ground early Friday here threatening an entire neighborhood after trees caught fire.

The homeowners were in Florida and no one was injured, said Southern Shores Police Chief David Kole.

Firefighters responded about 4:30 a.m. finding the house on South Dogwood Trail fully engulfed, he said. The flames burned trees on the lot threatening the entire wooded neighborhood, but firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading, he said. The heat melted siding on adjacent houses. A car in the driveway was badly burned.

The home was destroyed.

“There was nothing left,” he said.

Crews could not immediately determine the cause and the investigation continues, Kole said.
