hit and run
ELIZABETH CITY, N.C.

An 81-year-old man was found dead Wednesday morning on a narrow rural road in Pasquotank County.

He was the victim of a hit and run, said Trooper A. T. Miller of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Investigators are searching for the driver of the vehicle with the only clues being a few rivets from a bumper, Miller said.

George Stokley, 81, of Pasquotank County, was found about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday lying on Millpond Road in a rural area a few miles north of Elizabeth City. Stokely was near his house, Miller said.
