Currituck Beach Lighthouse

Built in 1873, the Currituck Beach Lighthouse is the northernmost lighthouse on the Outer Banks. It's open for climbing from late March through Thanksgiving weekend, with a free climb each year on its birthday on December 1. Visitors of all ages can climb the 220 steps for a panoramic view of the northern Outer Banks from ocean to sound.

Hours: Late March through November: Daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. From Memorial Day to Labor Day hours are extended to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Cost: $7 per person. Kids younger than 7 climb free with an adult. Cash or checks only.
