KDH Ice Cream Social

The Town of Kill Devil Hills will host its annual Ice Cream Social at Aviation Park (across from First Flight High School). FFHS and FFMS Jazz Bands will perform, The Fire Department and Auxiliary will serve hot dogs and hamburgers, and don’t forget the ice cream.

When: 4:30-7 p.m. (rain date is Tuesday, Oct. 2)

First Friday

First Friday is a fun-filled, family-oriented street festival held the first Friday of each month, April through November in Historic Downtown Manteo along the Waterfront. Each month on First Friday, Dare County Arts Council hosts new art exhibits, with musical guests performing at the DCAC Gallery. Local shops and restaurants in Manteo have extended hours and also feature special shows, sales and performances.

Outer Banks Bluegrass Festival

Featuring live music, vendors, and fare from local restaurants, including The Jolly Roger Restaurant, Stripers Bar & Grille, Sugar Creek Seafood Restaurant, and Darrell’s Seafood Restaurant, and Sooey’s BBQ & Rib Shack.

Great Pumpkin Fair

Nags Head Elementary School PTO’s annual Great Pumpkin Fair includes bounce houses and a variety of indoor and outdoor activities and games, raffles, silent auction, food trucks, bake sale, fall décor and other items available for purchase — as well as pumpkins of all shapes and sizes, hay bales, corn stalks and mums in a variety of colors.

Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival

The annual Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival — the East Coast’s cardinal wildlife event — includes nearly 90 activities (both indoor and outdoor), including bird watching, SUP paddleboard tours, sunrise kayak tours, reptile and amphibian hikes, an owl prowl, workshops, presentations, photography and painting classes and more.

OBX Brewtag

A celebration of flight and beer, OBX Brewtäg is modeled after the whimsical and entertaining Red Bull Flutag, translated to “flying day” in German. With OBX Brewtag, the general premise is the same, although rather than human-powered flying machines, Brewtag contestants will be competing to see who can launch and fly an empty 1/6 keg barrel the furthest — and the sky’s the limit as to how creative your homemade flying contraption can be. Individuals and teams are welcome. A rather crafty selection of local and regional beer and food will be available for purchase that day. This family-friendly event will also feature plenty of activities for kids. New this year is the VIP experience, which includes an event T-shirt, commemorative pint glass and specialized tastings to various craft breweries. Supplies are limited. All proceeds from the Outer Banks Brewtag benefit The Rogallo Foundation. The Rogallo Foundation was created to honor Francis and Gertrude Rogallo, inventors of the flexible wing; preserve their priceless records, artifacts, and research; interpret their incredible story; and protect this legacy of free flight for millions of people in all the Nations of the world; to stimulate and support research and education in aerodonetics the science of gliding and soaring flight and low speed aerodynamics. All proceeds will be used to build a museum to feature all of Rogallo’s innovative work, designs, history and advancements since its development.

Trick-or-Treat Night

In addition to Trick-or-Treating, PTO’s big event of the year will include a cake walk, a silent auction, crafts, games, face painting, and a photo booth sponsored by Five Fish Photography! Food will be on hand for dinner. The event is all ages friendly and open to the public. Admission is $2 per person and please bring a non-perishable food item for our food drive. Games and Trick-or-Treating is always FREE. Tickets available for other activities including Cake Walk, Photo Booth, and Crafts. We can’t wait to see those costumes. Raffle drawing at 6:30pm. 9th Annual Outer Banks Shrimp Cook-Off

Local chefs will compete to prepare the best shrimp dish. Attendees may sample all shrimp dishes and vote for their favorite. Awards will be: Chef’s Choice, Judge’s Choice, and People’s Choice. The event will also feature a large silent auction highlighting donations from local businesses, as well as a 50/50 raffle, live MC, and dolphin conservation outreach booth. Proceeds benefit Outer Banks Center for Dolphin Research
